Feeding questions rarely show up during convenient hours. They show up at midnight, during a pump session at work, or right when you are trying to leave the house.

That is why Rooted Maternal Wellness offers on-demand lactation support: secure messaging with an IBCLC so you can get practical, evidence-based answers without waiting for the next available appointment slot.

What on-demand support is

On-demand support is messaging-based lactation care. You send a question. An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant responds with tailored guidance.

It is ideal for:

• Clarifying a plan after a consult
• Quick troubleshooting (pump settings, flange fit, milk storage, bottle introduction)
• “Is this normal?” check-ins
• Adjusting a weaning or combo-feeding plan
• Follow-up questions that do not need a full 60–90 minute visit

It is not a substitute for a full assessment when pain is severe, baby is not transferring milk well, weight gain is concerning, or you need a hands-on latch evaluation.

3. We will confirm availability, pricing, and the secure messaging setup
4. Once you are set up, send questions anytime. We reply as soon as we can

After a full consultation: your initial visit typically includes one week of follow-up support through secure messaging, email, or text. Continued messaging after that week is available as an optional weekly add-on.

If messaging shows that you need a deeper look, we will recommend a virtual or in-person consult. That is not a failure of messaging. It is good clinical judgment.

• Continuity with a clinician who already knows your history (especially after a consult)
• Lower intensity than a full visit when you only need a targeted reply

Response time goal: often within a few hours. During appointments or overnight, replies can take longer. Expect a response within about 12–24 hours in most cases.

Privacy and HIPAA

We use a secure, HIPAA-compliant messaging approach for clinical conversations so your family’s health information stays protected. Avoid sharing sensitive details over public social DMs. Use the channel we set up for care.

Insurance note (important)

Full lactation consultations may be billable to insurance depending on your plan (many PPO plans we are in-network with include Aetna, UHC, IBX, Cigna, Tricare, and AmeriHealth).

Ongoing messaging subscriptions / weekly messaging fees are typically not eligible for insurance reimbursement. The one week of follow-up included with an initial visit is part of that consult episode. Ask us if you are unsure what applies to your situation. Horizon members may still access care through our sliding-scale options for consult services.

Examples of good messaging questions

• “My wearable pump output dropped. Can you help me check settings and flange size?”
• “Baby is fussier at evening feeds. Does this fit the plan we made, or should we adjust?”
• “How do I store and thaw milk safely for daycare?”
• “We want to combo feed without tanking supply. What should tonight look like?”
• Weaning feels bumpy. Can we pace this over the next two weeks?

If baby has fewer wet diapers, is lethargic, has a fever, or you are worried about dehydration or serious illness, contact your pediatrician or emergency care right away. Messaging is for lactation guidance, not emergency medicine.
